President Oaks teaches about the kingdoms of glory after this life and the Church’s focus on helping us qualify for the highest degree of the celestial kingdom.
We have a loving Heavenly Father who will see that we receive every blessing and every advantage that our own desires and choices allow.
The Three Kingdoms:
Celestial Kingdom:This is the highest degree of glory, likened to the glory of the sun and the presence of God. Those who inherit the celestial kingdom have embraced the gospel of Jesus Christ, received ordinances like baptism and temple sealing, and striven to live according to God's commandments.
Terrestrial Kingdom:This kingdom is likened to the glory of the moon and those who inherit it are described as "honorable men of the earth, who were blinded by the craftiness of men," but who were not valiant in the testimony of Jesus. They may not have fully embraced the gospel in this life but still receive blessings and the presence of Christ.
Telestial Kingdom:This kingdom is likened to the glory of the stars and is for those who have not embraced the gospel or lived according to God's commandments. They still receive blessings, but not to the same degree as those in the higher kingdoms.
* Outer Darkness:
There is also a state beyond the kingdoms of glory called outer darkness, which is reserved for those who have become sons of perdition. These individuals have rejected the truth, denied the Holy Spirit, and will not inherit a kingdom of glory.
Key Principles:
Agency:Individuals' choices and actions determine their eternal destiny and the kingdom they inherit.
Love and Mercy:God's love extends to all His children, and everyone will inherit a kingdom of glory, even if it is the telestial kingdom.
Progression:While individuals inherit a kingdom based on their choices, there is also an understanding that there can be degrees of glory within the celestial kingdom.
